Goin’ Back to Cheetahs
We’re playing with our buds Stab City for the first time in ages (shit, since Bex Fest 2011 maybe?) along with Gnarbaby and Bella Novella this Saturday, May 18 at Cheetahs in Hollywood. Bobby Vega is finally turning 21, so we fixin’ to pitch a bitch at the bikini bar!
Lightnin’ did a quick interview with Gary Schwind at Incognito Music Magazine! Read it here: http://incognitomusicmagazine.com/2013/05/09/like-a-shaman-on-acid-an-interview-with-lightnin-woodcock/
Had real swell times recently playing at Harvard & Stone and at Cobraside Distribution‘s monthly public sale, both courtesy of DJ Reason666 Adam Mayes. We had the pleasure of having “Sexual Chocolate” Damian Edwards sit in with us at Harvard & Stone on percussion… and the next night Damian put some percussion down on a song at SKR.
There’s already so much done on $atan’s Work is Never Done (Vol. II) but we still have plenty of shit to finish. Just like the title suggests… Lightnin’ ain’t lying, it’s hard work being an agent of Lucifer. Between all the time spent in the studio and onstage, promotion, booking, rehearsals plus endless hours of homework, not to mention doing the online nerd work… and getting out to see other bands as often as possible. Lightnin’ ain’t complaining though, I’m lucky to be doing what I’m doing. Lightnin’ hopes you feel lucky too… keep on smoking them joints.

Life has been socking Lightnin’ in the nuts and then stroking my shaft, all kinds of ups and downs lately. The other day Lightnin’ had my phone, laptop and pickup truck all crap out on me all in the same muthafukkin’ day. The next day Lightnin’ found myself at SKR Studios tracking vocals with some friends, making progress on $atan’s Work is Never Done (Vol. II). Sean Wheeler had agreed to come in and collaborate on a new song some months ago, and finally got an opportunity to come make magic with us. Badazz muthafukka Nick Oliveri stopped by to say hi to Sean and was coerced into singing on the track as well. Finally, Lightnin’ and my son Wolf Woodcock got in the vocal booth with them to lay down the final layer of background vocals:
The following night Lightnin’ was honored to be Nick Oliveri’s guest performer at his weekly Riot at the Rustic event, which is held every Monday night at Ye Rustic Inn. Nick dialed Lightnin’ in with a tuned-up crowd for me to perform some slide guitar and sing some dirty blues songs before a packed house. Then he kicked out a powerful set of acoustic versions of Kyuss, Mondo Generator, Queens, and even Turbonegro tunes. It was a great time, here’s a pic of Lightnin’ getting down at the Rustic:
Lightnin’ also had a great time performing at the Beatles Complete on Ukulele benefit show last week. If you thought it was a bunch of fuckers rockin’ ukes, that wasn’t the case. Dozens of performers took turns fronting a full band of rockin’ session players led by Ukulele Leader Roger McEvoy Greenawalt and Music Director Jonah Smith. Naturally, Lightnin’ performed “Yer Blues”; as much as Lightnin’ loves myself, I couldn’t help but notice that there was a shit-ton of talented performers that were friendly as can be. Maybe if Lightnin’s brain wasn’t so fried from all the years of drug abuse and paint-huffing, I could remember some of their names. Anyway, wish me luck with Lightnin’s truck… hopefully it will be back on the road soon, and Lightnin’ can quit feeling sorry for myself.
Lightnin’ Woodcock appreciates your support, thank you very much! Keep on smokin’ them joints, goddammit.

New LP, New Clothing
Shazam, goddamn! Lightnin’ loves to party, and we partied like fiends at the Down N Out for the release of $atan’s Work is Never Done (Vol I) last Friday! Lightnin’ ain’t gonna sugar coat it for ya: I was high as hell, but tried not to let it affect my performance too badly.
The crowd was lucky we had Harlis Sweetwater Band, princessFrank and Thee Atom Smashers join us on the bill; everybody kicked ass, just like Lightnin’ expected they would. Friends and fans packed the joint, with a crazy-long line going halfway up 5th Street. Fortunately, everybody got in and had a great time; there was all kinds of misbehavin’ going on at the DnO that night. We had a blast, goddammit.
New “Satan’s Work” tanks, tees and jerseys are now available on the Merchandise page: http://www.lightninwoodcock.com/merchandise/
The new LP is gonna be available tomorrow, 3/19/2013! If you still dig compact discs, pick it up from the Suicide King Records website: http://skrstudios.com/lightnin_woodcock
Otherwise, it’ll be available for download on iTunes, CDbaby and everywhere else where digital music is distributed! Shit, check out the album right here on Lightnin’s site… Look over yonder to the right, it’s all there for yez to hear!
Lightnin’ loves you all! Keep on smoking them joints, and keep on buying my shit. It’s good for you, yes it is!
